Statement delivered by Ms. Minna-Liina Lind Deputy Permanent Representative of Estonia to the UN at CARICOM-UN High Level Pledging Conference “Building a more Climate Resilient Community”, 21 November 2017

Mr. Chairperson,

Let me start by emphasising that it is of utmost importance that people affected by hurricanes receive appropriate assistance in a timely, effective and efficient manner. It is also crucial to ensure that those affected, including women, children, persons with disabilities and minority groups, are reached. Only then the recovery process can be truly successful.

Estonia acknowledges the seriousness of the situation in the Caribbean islands and stands ready to provide humanitarian assistance. We have made our contribution of 30 000 euros via The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies emergency appeal to support their efforts on delivering assistance to victims of natural disasters and on helping disaster-affected communities in the eastern Caribbean islands Antigua, Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis as well as Cuba.

We would also like to thank the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and UN for organising this conference and hope that it will bring some relief and helps to take necessary steps towards building more climate resilient communities.

Thank you.
