Under Estonia’s Chairmanship The Second Committee Concluded Its Work

On November 30, the Permanent Representative of Estonia Ambassador Sven Jürgenson chaired the last plenary meeting of the Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) of the General Assembly at its seventy-second session.

During this session Member States negotiated forty-two draft proposals, which dealt with issues relating to economic growth. Under Estonia’s chairmanship the UN membership also made history by ending the work of the Second Committee on 30th November, achievement last achieved in 1986.

Ambassador Jürgenson said in his closing remarks: “I extend congratulations to all of you, Member States, on the conclusion of this historic session. We did it together, it is our achievement, the bureau, the secretariat but most of all, of course, the Member States. Dear colleagues, dear friends, let us build on the progress we made this year, the bridges we built, and the lessons we learned along the way, and press fast forward to advance the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
