This year Estonia is participating in the United Nations (UN) Young Professionals Programme, through which new workers are recruited into one of the world’s largest international organisations. This time the UN is asking for applicants from various countries around the world, including Estonia, who are until the age of 32 and have a university degree.
All Estonian citizens who are born after 1 January 1979 can apply for positions in the international organisation. Requirements for applicants are at least a first-level university degree and fluency in English or French. Prior work experience is not required. This year applicants can apply for positions in the administration, humanitarian affairs, public information, and statistics sectors.
Applications will be accepted until 10 September 2011. After the applications have been reviewed, suitable candidates will be invited to take an examination and attend an interview. The written examination will take place on 7 December 2011. Those who are most successful in the exam will be invited to the interview round, and success in the interview stage will lead to a job offer in the UN Secretariat, subordinate organisations, funds or missions.
The Estonian Foreign Ministry and Estonian Permanent Representation to the UN recommend all young people who are interested in working in the UN to fill out an application to participate. The last time this opportunity was made available was 15 years ago.
